Umpqua Bank is an Oregon-based institution that operates under the umbrella of Umpqua Holdings Corporation. Today, following the merger with Columbia Bank, it is among the 30 largest banks in the U.S. with more than $50 billion in assets and is the largest bank in the northeastern United States.
It has some 300 branches in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, as well as an extensive ATM network.

History of Umpqua Bank
Today, we can consider Umpqua Bank as a consolidated entity that has been in the market for more than 65 years. The history of this financial institution began in 1953, under the name of South Umpqua State Bank, due to the fact that the city of Canyonville is located near a river that bears this name.

Within its evolution and growth, this bank has had some moments that we want to highlight:
- 1953. Founded by pioneers from a lumber town south of the Umpuqua River.
- 1972. Moved the headquarters from Canyonville to Roseburg, Oregon.
- 1998. Change original name to South Umpqua Bank and then to Umpuqua Bank.
- 2000-2007. Acquisitions begin in Oregon with Valley of the Rogue Bank, Linn-Benton Bank, Family Security Bank, Mackenzie State Bank, Oregon State Bank, Security Bank, Pacific State Bank, Lincoln Security Bank and Centennial Bank. This was followed by purchases in California: Humboldt Bank, Lake Community Bank, Western Sierra National Bank, Auburn Community Bank, Central California Bank and Vintage Bank.
- 2009-2014. After the crisis, other deals followed in Washington: Bank of Clark County, Evergreen Bank, Rainier Pacif Bank, Nevada Security Bank, Circle Bank and Sterling Savings Bank.
- 2023. Umpqua Bank's parent merges with Columbia Banking System, Inc, owner of Washington State-based Columbia Bank. The resulting entity continues to be called Umpqua Bank, expanding its presence into new states and increasing the number of branches, placing it among the 30 largest financial institutions in the United States.
