Prosperity Bank is another relatively new financial institution, with origins dating back to the 1980s. Owned by Prosperity Bancshares Inc. and headquartered in Houston, it is ranked 65th with assets of about $38 billion.
It has 272 full-service branches distributed throughout most of Texas and three cities in Oklahoma.
The bank's philosophy is oriented toward community banking, personalized customer service and offering solutions that simplify everyday financial needs.
In addition to offering traditional banking products for deposit and borrowing, they also offer credit/debit cards, cash management, wealth management, mortgages, trusts, investment vehicles and more.
A brief history of Prosperity Bank
We can say that Prosperity Bank is an entity that continues to take firm steps towards its consolidation in the U.S. market. Despite its youth and its presence in only a few states (Texas and Oklahoma), its track record shows that they have done things well.
This is reflected in a review of their most significant moments:
- 1983. Born from the purchase of a branch of Allied Bank in Edna (TX), whose parent company dates back to 1949 and was known as the First National Bank of Edna.
- 2008. In the midst of the global economic crisis, they have the opportunity to acquire the failed Franklin Bank through the FDIC.
- 2010. They manage to purchase three branches of FBOP Corporation, which belonged to US Bancorp.
- 2012. They make a further acquisition, this time of 37 branches of American State Bank, allowing the entity to make inroads in West Texas.
- 2013. Purchase of Coppermark Bank and its nine branches, giving Prosperity Bank a presence in Oklahoma with six offices. That same year, it also acquires First Victoria National Bank along with its 34 branches.
- 2014. The bank purchases F&M Bancorporation and its 13 branches, some of which are located in Tulsa (OK).
- 2019. They seize the opportunity to take over Legacy Texas Bank and its 42 branches.
- May 2023. Prosperity Bancshares Inc. announces the purchase and absorption of FirstCapital Bank of Texas and its 16 offices in various Texas cities.
